Welcome! My name is Dolores Larry, though you may call me Miss D! I am a Professional Clinical Counselor Trainee at Horizon Family and Community Services. I am passionate about creating a warm, welcoming space where clients feel safe, understood, and comfortable being themselves.
I enjoy working with people from diverse backgrounds and life experiences and welcome the opportunity to work with a variety of populations. I am especially interested in supporting adolescents, women, parents, underserved communities, individuals navigating trauma or major life transitions, and those experiencing relationship or attachment challenges. My areas of interest also include anxiety, depression, stress, self-esteem, identity, family conflict, school difficulties, and communication and boundaries.
My counseling style is warm, conversational, curious, and nonjudgmental, while also being direct and compassionate when needed. I enjoy helping clients recognize patterns, explore how past experiences may influence the present, and develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationships.
As I continue developing as a clinician, I am especially drawn to Psychodynamic Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Trauma-Focused Therapy, and DBT-informed skills.
I am currently completing my graduate education at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, on the path toward becoming a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. Before entering the counseling field, I gained extensive experience working in skilled nursing facilities with residents and their families. Those experiences strengthened my compassion, empathy, and ability to support people through vulnerable and challenging moments.
I believe meaningful growth can happen when people feel genuinely seen, heard, and supported. My goal is to meet clients where they are, help them recognize their strengths, and walk alongside them as they move toward greater understanding, healing, and growth.
